Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Theories

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Theories & Hand Diagnosis

Course Code: TCMHD001

Introduction:

In Tradition Chinese Medicine (TCM), the theory of Yin and Yang is used to explain the body’s structure, physiology, pathology, and to guide clinical diagnosis and treatment. TCM regards the human body as an organic whole, embodying the opposing forces of Yin and Yang. With the Yin steady and the Yang consolidated, a good and balanced health condition is experienced. TCM explains pathology in the body as a result of excess or deficiency in either the Yin or Yang.

Hand Diagnosis branched from one of the four TCM diagnostic techniques (inspection, auscultation and olfaction, interrogation, pulse-feeling and palpation) – The Inspection Techniques. When Hand Diagnosis students learn the
basic theories of TCM, namely, Yin-Yang, the Five Elements, Visceral Manifestation, Qi, Blood, Body Fluid and Vitality, Meridian Systems and Pathology, etc. would surely be very beneficial when presenting the observation result of hand diagnosis.
